Abinger Hammer
Why live in Abinger Hammer?
It’s a very pretty village in an accessible location. The Tillingbourne (more of a stream here, than a river) flows through the green where, during summer, locals and visitors congregate to watch the cricket while children paddle and fish with nets. The village clock is a landmark, featuring the figure of a blacksmith striking the hour with his hammer, a reminder of the iron forge which operated here in the late 1500s.
The Kingfisher Farm Shop sells a range of fresh produce and there’s a village shop/post office and tearoom. Tennis and cricket clubs are based at Abinger Sports Club, which also offers social memberships. There are several good traditional pubs nearby, including the Gomshall Mill.
Transport
On the A25 midway between Guildford and Dorking, buses run through the village (to/from Guildford and Redhill via Dorking and Reigate and to/from Gatwick, Crawley). Gomshall Station (approx. 1 mile) has trains to Redhill (22 mins) and Guildford (approx. 15 mins) for connections to London. London Waterloo from Dorking isapprox. 50 mins.
