If you like views, this charming little hamlet, which at 750ft is said to be the highest community in the south of England, is hard to beat. Stone cottages cling to the hillside, there’s a church, village hall and Memorial Groundincluding a children's playground, with extensive views across the Sussex Weald to the South Downs National Park. The eastern end of the village has views to the North Downs ridge and contains the site of an ancient hillfort. The hamlet, which is in a conservation area and has around 250 residents, is well served by The Plough Inn and Shop.

Nearest train stations are Holmwood and Dorking West, on the North Downs line.
Schools
Nearest schools are Surrey Hills CofE Primary School in nearby Westcott and Peaslake Free School. The Ashcombe School in Dorking is a state secondary. Local independents include Belmont School in Abinger Common and Duke of Kent School in Ewhurst.
