Shere
Why live in Shere?
Because this Surrey village, which looks like a film set – and has been the location for many – is an idyllic location. The quaint, olde-worlde high street features mainly 16th and 17th-century timber-framed houses and has a small village supermarket, gift shop, popular café, the Dabbling Duck, and ice-cream parlour. The River Tillingbourne runs through the village and is a popular spot for feeding the ducks. The beautiful 12th-century St James Church in the centre of the village is approached up a cobbled lane, through a lychgate designed by renowned local architect Edwin Lutyens in 1902.
There are two pubs, The White Horse and The Bray on Shere Lane, plus a restaurant called Kinghams, serving quality modern British cuisine. Shere is surrounded by beautiful Surrey countryside, so is very popular with walkers.
Transport
Buses run through Shere to Guildford and Horsham via Dorking. Gomshall Station offers connecting services to London Waterloo via Guildford or to London Victoria via Dorking.
Schools
Shere has an infant school and nursery. There are many state and private schools in nearby Guildford.
